Reconnect Communities: Memories and musings, coffees and connection this Autumn
As communities tentatively return to their pre-pandemic activities, one group in society is still experiencing significant health anxieties and experiencing barriers to access. The Covid-19 pandemic and associated safety measures have had a serious impact on the health and wellbeing of older people.
Healthy Galway City and Galway City Partnership (GCP), in partnership with Galway Contact, Age Action Galway and Cope Galway are delighted to present the Galway City Council Creative Ireland funded ''Reconnect Communities'' project.
This is an ambitious project targeting older adults, especially those who may not have reengaged with their communities and local goings-on since before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The project started strong with an organised visit to Brigit's Garden on the 13th September. 50 attendees from all over Galway City travelled by bus to the beautiful garden surroundings to enjoy guided tours in the sunshine, Brigit's cross demonstrations, lunch, live music and laughter.

As part of Positive Ageing Week, older adults are invited to attend the ''Reconnect Communities'' Social Mornings taking place in three locations in Galway city.
Tuesday 27th September 10:30 am - 12:30 pm: Westside Resource Centre
Wednesday 28th September 10:30 am - 12:30 pm: Ballybane Community Resource Centre
Thursday 29th September 10:30 am - 12:30 pm: Ballinfoile Castlegar Neighbourhood Centre
Attendees can expect tea, coffee, refreshments, live music and will be able to access information, support and advice about services in their area.

The final component of the ''Reconnect Communities'' project is the delivery the 8-week ''Making Memories'' course; incorporating reminiscing and creative story telling through art, crafts, photography and music. The activities will be designed with the overarching themes of promoting connectedness, wellbeing, and processing hardships.
The 8-week course will be delivered in local community resource centres in neighbourhoods throughout Galway City;
Starting
Tuesday 4th October 10:30 am - 12:30 pm: Westside Resource Centre
Wednesday 5th October 10:30 am - 12:30 pm: Ballybane Community Resource Centre
